Based on the celebrated YA novel by Emily M. Danforth, The Miseducation of Cameron Post tells the story of a teenager (Chloë Grace Moretz) whose conservative guardians send her to an anti-gay conversion center.
Run by a strict doctor (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.), the center is built around the idea of repenting for same sex attraction. In the face of this intolerance and denial, Cameron meets a group of fellow “sinners,” including the stoner Jane (Sasha Lane), and the Lakota Two-Spirit Adam (Forrest Goodluck). Together, the group of teens forms an unlikely family and fights to survive. Peppered with humor and warmed by a generous spirit that extends understanding, if not forgiveness, even to the religious zealot characters, Desiree Akhavan’s film beautifully articulates the need for young people to realize the validity of who they are.
