T2 Trainspotting

21 years ago Danny (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) Boyle burst upon the scene with his no-holds-barred adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel about a group of frenemies, low-life Scot sleazeballs who somehow won our (some of our) hearts. They’re back – older yes, wiser?!

At the end of the first film, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) ran off with the payoff from a drug deal and has spent the past two decades in Amsterdam. He returns home to Edinburgh to make amends, and finds his old friends Spud (Ewen Bremner) and Simon “Sick Boy” Williamson (Jonny Lee Miller) mostly stuck in the same place and hopes to avoid the dangerous and psychopathic Begbie (Robert Carlyle) who is out for revenge. Even Kelly MacDonald makes an appearance. Boyle’s sequel, an ode to misspent youth, is an exhilarating trip down memory lane, and a sometimes painful contemplation of time wasted.
“Logic be damned: ‘T2 Trainspotting’ casts a profane, exuberant spell.” – LA TIMES
