After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, a scuzzy Queens bank robber, Constantine “Connie” Nikas (Robert Pattinson), embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city’s underworld in an increasingly desperate—and dangerous—attempt to get his brother Nick (Benny Safdie) out of jail.

Critics cite Robert Pattinson’s career-peak performance in this nerve-rattling heist-within-a-heist thriller. Over the course of one adrenalized night, Connie finds himself on a mad descent into violence and mayhem as he races against the clock to save his brother and himself, knowing their lives hang in the balance. The headline above Richard Brody’s New Yorker column announces, “Instant-Classic Crime Drama for the Age of Trump.” Variety adds, “The film works such social and psychological nuance into what otherwise amounts to a breathless, battering pulp thriller—precision-edited to 100 minutes, though it feels shorter and antsier still—is perhaps the most impressive of its achievements.” One of the major toasts of this past May’s Cannes Film Festival. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh.
