In 1984 Jim Jarmusch burst upon the cinematic scene with his second feature STRANGER THAN PARADISE; in the intervening decades he’s made so many indelible films, and now, his latest, is a paean to poetry.

Paterson (Adam Driver) is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey – they share the name. He adheres to a simple routine: he drives his daily route, observing the city as it drifts across his windshield and overhears fragments of conversation swirling around him; he scribbles poetry into a notebook; he walks his dog; he drinks one beer at the bar; he goes home to his wife, Laura (Golshifteh Farahani). By contrast, Laura’s world is ever changing. New dreams come to her daily, each a different and inspired project. He supports her newfound ambitions; she champions his secret gift for poetry. Daily life’s quiet triumphs and defeats are observed, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.
