Based on the true story of an acclaimed historian’s (Rachel Weisz) legal battle in English courts about the Holocaust’s validity.

After the historian, Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz), declared David Irving (Timothy Spall) a Holocaust denier, he sued her for libel. He knew that in the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant, therefore it was up to Lipdtadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton (Tom Wilkinson), to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred. It brings up a quote (attributed to a number of people) but including Daniel Patrick Moynihan who told Nixon, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.”
